Why we don’t publish a “typical range”

The discount is delivered through certificates whose dollar value moves with the market, so even the support side has no fixed figure, only published rules. Installed battery prices themselves have no public index. Treat any specific dollar amount in an advertisement as an estimate rather than a published rate.

What actually moves the price

Use these to read the quote in front of you and to ask the questions that make competing quotes comparable.

  • Usable capacity in kWh. The main determinant, and the thing the federal tiers are calculated on.
  • Whether it is AC-coupled to existing solar or DC-coupled as part of a new system.
  • Backup capability. A battery that keeps the house running in an outage needs additional switchgear and costs more than one that does not.
  • Switchboard and metering work required.
  • Mounting location, indoor, outdoor, garage, and the clearances required.
  • Brand and warranty term, which vary widely for similar nameplate capacity.

The tapering structure introduced on 1 May 2026 is the most important thing to understand before sizing a battery, because it changes the economics of going large. Capacity beyond 14 kWh attracts a materially smaller discount, and capacity beyond 28 kWh attracts very little.
